The forest disappeared, black inky water was lurking around our waists. No sunshine, no beauty. Chad's mind had changed with his mood. Chad. It was still too dark to see anything, as the water rose above our chins. Our mouths. Our heads... I felt my hair in a massive swirl around me, in the zero-gravity water, it wasn't pulled either way: There was no current, no relief. I swam upwards, but I could not break the surface. I felt a hand on my wrist; Soft, cautious, not the intense flames of Eldon's skin. I turned.

"Willow" I cried again more desperately with each try. The dark water seemed to be expanding and temperature of the water was decreasing rapidly. I heard Willow cry out for me again. This time a face appeared with the cry. I reached up to her and grabbed her wrist. Relief washed through me for a moment. Relief that I had found her. Panic was the next emotion I could feel. Willow was here with me, being swallowed being by the ice cold, dark, bottomless ocean that now ruled my life.

Chad. Thank Buddha. Even under the water his green eyes sparkled. I wrapped my arms around him, holding him closer to me. The waters were like ice - uncomfortable, like knives stabbing me rapidly. I w2as running out of air, and as that fact came with daunting certainty I crushed Chad even closer to me, wanting him to stop this: Wanting the forest to return.

Do you know how people say your life flashes before your eyes in the last few moments of your life? I never thought that that was true, but seeing Willow in as much pain as she is now brought back so many terrible memories of all the things I had done to cause her pain. Some of them were just little things like cursing her under my breath, but as the years of my life flashed before my eyes I noticed that the more time I spent with her the more pain I had caused her, From my greatest betray, to seeing her slowly loose consciousness in my arms. At the sight of this it felt as if the water got darker and colder. I knew that I had done some terrible things to deserve this, but she did nothing she viewed as wrong in her short life. At that moment I was unsure of so many things, but there was one thing I was certain of. I would not let Willow Zeaira die.

PLEASE! Make it stop! My mind screamed at me, but I couldn't speak without air. And then I felt nothing. Blackness, nothing. I was somewhere else. I was walking along a stoned beach, where the waves were vaguely pink. And there was someone walking alongside me. He looked distantly familiar... His aged face was creased with wrinkles and laugh lines, his lips were dry and his eyes shone with expeience. The middle aged man sighed and looked heavenwards, then at me. "Willow," He said softly, as if he was a teacher scolding a bold six year old. "It's unlucky, and you may not like it, but..." "No!" I screamed at him, refusing to listen, fearing his next words because I already knew what he would say. "I don't want that, I don't..." I sobbed, and then I tried to scream Chad's name. But I could hear myself screaming, "ELDON!" instead. I coughed as I sat up, awake. Chad was supporting me, one hand firmly on my back, his other intertwined with mine. Eldon was in front of me, tilting my chin upwards with his index finger. "I'm here, don't worry," He said softly, but his eyes... I had a horrible sinking feeling in my gut. "I heard you screaming for help, and then my name. Good thing you did, too, or I wouldn't have found you two, wouldn't have dragged you out." Eldon finished, his eyes gentle, no trace of pity. "She was't screaming," Chad protested, "I would have heard her." " I heard her screaming." Eldon said, not taking his eyes off me. {OK, in case you're confused Willow was only screaming in her mind, so Chad never heard her, but Eldon did for reasons I'll explain in a PM when I'm not as lazy as I am now. So, just so we're clear, Chad heard no screaming }

{OK I'm confused. are we still in his head or not? and will you hurry up and pm me!}
"I heard her screaming" Eldon said confidently, looking directly at Willow. Willow just stared back unable to break his gaze. This whole situation was confusing me. How could he be so sure he heard her screaming when she was definitely not. She hadn't said a word in minutes and she looked just as confused as I did. "Willow?" I questioned, breaking her gaze from Eldon.

I turned to look at Chad. For a second I couldn't breath. "He's right, Chad, I was screaming." Chad looked crestfallen, and Eldon looked triumphant. "In my dream," I added quietly, breathlessly, and both of their expressions changed. Eldon looked confused, but Chad looke horrified. Did that mean he knew? Oh God, please don't let him know.

I couldn't decide which emotion I was feeling stronger, horror or confusion. A still silence filled the space between us and I felt the need to say something, anything. But my mind was completely blank. 'Just say something' I told myself 'Anything would be better then nothing' I reasoned. "Is this some kind of sick joke?" I said, disgust ringing through my voice. Why did I say that, nothing would have been better then that.

"I really hope so," I put my face in my hands. I was so upset; what had I done to deserve this? Okay, that was the wrong question to ask. What I should have asked, was what had Chad done to deserve this. "I'm really sorry, Chadwick," I whispered, and Eldon slipped his hand into mine.

I inhaled sharply trying to digest what I was hearing. Then to every ones surprise, including my own, I began to laugh a low calm laugh. Willow looked confused and Eldon spoke as if he were answering a unspoken question, "Its probably just his way of coping" he whispered softly to her. This set me into a wave of hysterics.

I swallowed hard, wondering what the hell was so funny to Chad. "I'll snap him out of it," Eldon whispered to me, grabbing my face in his hands and forcing his lips down on mine. "Hey!" I protested, pushing him off me, but there wasn't really any need to. Chad punched him, and suddenly nothing was all that funny anymore.

I didn't think about what I did next, it was just a knee-jerk reaction. Eldon smiled up at me, a steam of deep scarlet blood ran from his nose. He seemed to think that this was a little humorous. I glanced over at Willow, her emotions carefully hidden behind her familiar features.

"Son of a biscuit," Only I didn't say biscuit, I just know that the censored words are activated. I took Eldons hand and helped him up off the ground, muttering, "Try it again and you'll be lucky if it's just your nose." He was smiling as he wiped the blood from his face. "Was worth it though, innit?" He grinned at me, and I rolled my eyes, turning back to Chadwick. "Can you get us out of here?" I asked.

"Can you get us out of here?" she asked and seconds later we were back in the real world. I looked around quickly to make sure the wingless were actually gone. When I was sure of this I quickly turned around and began to make my way back to the school, completely aware that she was following me.

"Chadwick!" I called after him, following him through the brush and taking his hand. Eldon walked close beside me, his humour bright. "Ignore him," I whispered to Chadwick, squeezing his fingers lightly. "Just think of how he reminds you of a toothache you once had," I grinned at Chadwick. "I'm right here, you know," Eldon said, and I restrained from laughing.
